The man of yore was far more happier and comfortable than modern man

In this modern age the triumph of sciences is seen everywhere in life. Science has spanned the sky, measured the ocean and wrested from nature many of her hidden treasures. It has relieved human sufferings by discovering the secrets of health and disease. It has also extended the frontiers of our knowledge in various ways and in various directions. But alas today’s man is not as happy and comfortable as the man of yore.

Today man is more vulnerable to many dangers like death. The ancient man never faced the danger of death from his fellow men. There were no train derailments, aircraft crashes, car accidents or bomb explosions. But today just to get money people are ready to kill each other. The numbers of accidents have also greatly increased.

Due to the development in science and technology many new devices and gadgets have been invented which make our life easy. But can science and technology guarantee us that there won’t be any incidents leading to loss of life? It certainly can’t. We say that mechanization of the industry has increased the productions, but due to this mechanization the numbers of unemployed people have increased. Human beings may have reached Mars but what about humanity? It has vanished completely.

The ancient man lived in harmony with nature but today man is cutting down trees and destroying forests. The pollution rate has also increased and many people are suffering from fatal diseases as a result of pollution.

In last few centuries we have developed a lot materially as well as economically. We have modernized a lot as well. But has anybody paid attention to the fact that due to this modernization we ‘the younger generation’ does not have any value for our culture and heritage.

Today the countries of the world are busy in producing nuclear arms. But are   these arms being used to defend the countries or to attack other countries?

The 20th century for all its achievement was the cruelest and bloodiest in human history. A hundred million people died in the war, a hundred million people died in the acts of violence resulting from race, religion and language and about fifty million people became refugees.

The paradox of our times is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wide freeways but narrow view points, we spend more but have less, buy more but enjoy it less.

We have big spacious houses but smaller families. We have more conveniences; but less time. We have more degrees but less sense. We have a lot of knowledge but less sense of judgment. We have more experts but experts but even more problems. We have many medicines but poor health. We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values.

These are the days of two days of two income but more divorces, fancier but broken home.

Do we want this form of modernization and development??

No certainly not!!

So we must stand up against all this and strive for a happy and virtuous life.
